This Carousel was created during my second year of graduate school. I wanted to create a serving piece where users could select a color, based on personal identity, much like one would select a game piece before playing a board game. Five nut bowls sit on a spinning server. The nut bowls were slipcast from a carved clay prototype. The Carousel server was handbuilt and wheel thrown. The server sat on a lazy susan bearing system so it could spin. The surface of the Carousel was created with several layers of milk paint over bisqued porcelain and each piece was waxed and buffed to a soft sheen. The milk paint gives the piece a sense of age and nostalgia for games of a bygone era.
